Dr. Everett B. Kelley stands as a transformational leader at the intersection of labor advocacy and spiritual ministry. As the National President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), he represents over 800,000 federal and D.C. government workers—making AFGE the largest federal employee union in the nation.
Born in Goodwater, Alabama, Dr. Kelley's journey embodies the American spirit of service and perseverance. After serving his country in the United States Army for three years on active duty and eight years in the Reserves, he dedicated over 30 years to the Anniston Army Depot while rising through union leadership.
His educational journey is equally impressive: earning degrees from Central Alabama Community College, Selma University, and Rushing Springs School of Theology, culminating in a Doctorate in Theology in 2016.

Dr. Everett B. Kelley is the National President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest federal employee union representing over 800,000 workers across federal and D.C. government agencies. He assumed the presidency in February 2020.
A transformational leader, Dr. Kelley has dedicated his life to advancing workers' rights, social justice, and faith-based ministry.
Military Service

Born in Goodwater, Alabama, Dr. Kelley's journey embodies the American spirit of service and perseverance. After graduating from Sylacauga High School, he served his country with distinction in the United States Army for three years on active duty and eight years in the Army Reserves.
Professional Career

Dr. Kelley's professional career spans over 30 years at the Anniston Army Depot, where he not only served with excellence but also emerged as a powerful voice for workers' rights. He joined AFGE in 1981 and made history as the first African American President of AFGE Local 1945, growing membership from 1,200 to over 2,600 members under his visionary leadership.
Ministry

As a man of deep faith, Dr. Kelley served as Senior Pastor of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Lincoln, Alabama, for nearly 32 years before retiring in February 2019 as Pastor Emeritus. He continues his calling through E.B. Kelley Ministries, providing pastoral counseling and spiritual guidance to ministers and church leaders.
